AMD Ryzen CPUs are set to turn up on November 5, and thanks to a recent Ryzen live stream we now know all about these Zen 3-powered chips and what to expect when it comes to gaming performance. If you can't wait 'til the end of the year, these are the best CPUs for gaming right now.
Oh, before we get to all that, you might be wondering why the leap to the Ryzen branding with this generation. Us too. The Ryzen branding was due a desktop range this year, yet AMD has confirmed it'll be the series that makes its way into our gaming PCs instead.
All will be powered by the new and improved Zen 3 architecture. The successor to the incredibly successful and revolutionary Zen 2 architecture that launched inZen 3 is said to be much more than an incremental update—in fact, AMD is promising an "entirely new architecture" with performance to match. An its first official benchmarks point to promising improvements in gaming performance. Of course, we'll have to wait until we get our hands on these chips to really put them to the test.
But in the meantime here's everything we know about Ryzen today. When exactly? Following its most recent live stream, we now know that AMD Ryzen processors will be available to purchase on November 5, AMD Ryzen specs Sweeping changes to the Zen architecture are on the way for its third iteration, and a fair bit changed under the heat spreader for Ryzen as a result.
That means slightly higher clocks, a different core cluster configuration, and significantly higher IPC instructions per clock over Zen 2.
AMD Ryzen price The chiplet architecture introduced with Zen 2 has proven itself an effective money-saving measure, and some of those savings will carry over to Zen 3, too.
The new Ryzen processors are slightly pricier than last generation, but at least the mid-range Ryzen 5 X remains at the same price as its predecessor. AMD Ryzen processors will be available to buy from November 5, worldwide. That's AMD's official line on the Zen 3 release date, and that only leaves just under a month until the big day arrives.
The chipmaker's CEO, Dr. Here's hoping RDNA 2 can also arrive on time and in big numbers. Lisa Su recently confirmed. So it at least sounds like AMD's on the right track, although it wasn't likely to give us any other impression.

If you want to read all about the AMD Ryzen announcement event, head over to our live report page for a recap. The recently disclosed specifications for the Ryzen CPUs point to another great stride in the right direction for AMD, with single-threaded performance once again on the up. Here is a detailed breakdown of the announced specs, and how they compare to the Ryzen chips on the Zen 2 architecture:. As you may have noticed, there isn't any change to core counts.
That's because Zen 3 appears to be using the same 7nm process node, or a very similar node at least, to Zen 2, and thus there's seemingly no place to stuff any extra chiplets or cores on the chip dies. In theory, unifying L3 cache, streamlining memory access, and cutting latency between cores.
Yeah, we'll happily take that. So with generational performance well and truly sorted, it's onto facing down the competition. And, they may be revolutionizing the gaming laptop scene with almost the kind of performance that one might expect from desktop processors.
Actual proof exists in the form of such laptops like the Asus Zephyrus G This impressive portable combines a great boost in performance with more power efficiency, delivering power on par with desktops thanks to these mobile chips.
The Pros are now available from multiple retailers in Europe as well as being listed in the US. We expected the Ryzen desktop processors to arrive after a keynote announcement on October 8with a release likely coming in the following weeks. However, new leaks suggest that AMD could skip the Ryzen desktop processors altogether, launching its Zen 3-based processors with the Ryzen instead. Prior to their release. Now, these chips are out in the wild and powering a new generation of thin and light laptops that boast incredible performance and impressively long battery life.
The newly-released Asus Zephyrus G14 is leading that charge, and we should start seeing more laptops rocking AMD Ryzen processors across both ultraportables and gaming laptops.
As for the next-generation of Ryzen processors for desktop, AMD just released a short teaser video with an October 8 date. We now know, however, that they will be called Ryzen thanks to an early leak from AMD itself. As far as the laptop chips, the prices of the processors themselves are not relevant to most people, as laptop manufacturers will absorb the price and repackage them. Still, we will probably see prices increase over last-generation AMD laptopsdue to the fact that AMD's processors will be behind flagship-class laptops like the upcoming Lenovo Yoga Slim 7.
The AMD Ryzen mobile lineup are the first 7nm processors to make their way to laptops, and with that they bring some huge benefits. The biggest of these is, just like Ryzen desktop before it, core counts.
This is a huge improvement, and even though clock speeds are limited to 4. If recent leaks are any indication, AMD Ryzen mobile chips really won't be much slower than the desktop processors. However, what's odd is that only every other SKU has hyperthreading. Both of the announced H-Series chips for mobile have hyper-threading however, along with higher base clock speeds. One of the key features of this AMD Ryzen series for laptops is going to be the integrated graphics performance. These chips will not be in gaming laptops, however, but when you just want to get in a quick Overwatch match on your lunch break, it will make a major difference.

Newegg Authorized Dealer.AMD has officially announced that the Zen 3 architecture will land this year and outlined the new Ryzen models, setting the stage for a new wave of powerful chips based upon a newer version of AMD's most successful architecture to date. AMD says Zen 3 features a grounds-up rethinking of the architecture that finally allows it to take the p gaming performance lead from Intel.
In fact, given what we've seen so far, it looks like AMD could soon enjoy a dominating position in the desktop PC market unlike anything we've seen since the Athlon 64 days. Here's the Zen 3 Ryzen processors that AMD has announced thus far, but we expect more to come to market soon:. This chip boosts up to 4. AMD says this chip is faster than Intel's core Core iK in pretty much everything, which isn't surprising — Intel has no equivalent for the mainstream desktop.
AMD says this chip beats the Core iK by even more impressive margins in gaming. Intel is stuck with its Comet Lake chips for five long months to try to fend off the Ryzen lineup until Rocket Lake arrives in Q1which doesn't bode well. As odd as it sounds, Intel may have one hidden advantage — pricing. AMD now positions Ryzen as the premium brand and says it has the benchmarks to prove it. However, the XT family doesn't really represent AMD's best value chips; its own Ryzen serieswhich comes at much lower price points, holds that crown.
However, AMD says it still maintains the performance-per-dollar lead. We won't know the full story until the chips land in our labs, but that obviously won't be long — AMD says the full roster of Ryzen chips will be available at retail on November 5. If one thing is for certain, the Zen microarchitecture has completely redefined our expectations for mainstream desktop chipsand it's rational to expect more of the same with Zen 3.
Let's cover what we know about Zen 3 so far. Here we can see the full Ryzen product stack, and how the new chips stack up against Intel's Comet Lake. The first big thing you'll notice are the increased Precision Boost clock rates, which now stretch up to 4. However, we also see a broad trend of lower base frequencies for the Ryzen series compared to the previous-gen chips, but that isn't too surprising considering the much higher performance-per-watt that we'll outline below.
AMD obviously leans on its improved IPC rather than raw clock speeds, thus boosting its power efficiency and reducing heat generation.
The Ryzen 5 X is the best example of that — despite only a slight reduction to the base frequency, the chip drops to a 65W TDP compared to its predecessor's 95W. What's not as impressive? That means the Ryzen 5 X will be the only Ryzen chip that comes with a cooler in the box. AMD said it decided to skip bundled coolers in higher-TDP models largely because it believes most enthusiasts looking for high-performance chips use custom cooling anyway.

AMD also still specs a mm or greater AIO liquid cooler for the Ryzen 9 and 7 chips, which significantly adds to the overall platform costs. AMD continues to only guarantee its boost frequencies on a single coreand all-core boosts will vary based on the cooling solution, power delivery, and motherboard BIOS.AMD Zen 3 Desktop Ryzen 4000 CPUs Release Date and Specs Leak
The Ryzen chips still expose the same 20 lanes of PCIe 4. We're told that memory overclocking capabilities remain the same as we see with the Ryzen XT models, so AMD hasn't changed its guidance on that front.
Before we get into the benchmarks, be aware that AMD provided them. Like all benchmarks provided by any company, they could be and probably are heavily skewed toward games and applications that favor the company's products.
AMD also says the Ryzen 9 X scores points in the single-threaded Cinebench R20 benchmark, which is much higher than the Core iK's points. The content creation benchmarks show the X with solid gains in lightly-threaded apps, like CAD, Adobe Premier, and compilation. However, performance gains in the heavily-threaded V-Ray application are a bit less pronounced.AMD claims they will offer up to 24 percent increase in performance in games at p. The new CPUs feature a unified eight-core complex with lower latency - all cores have direct access to the L3 cache resulting in up to 19 percent IPC uplift.
AMD claims it will be the biggest update to the Zen architecture yet, with a front to back redesign. Each core in an eight-core complex now has direct access to up to 32MB cache rather than 16MB. There's up to 24 percent increase in power efficiency, with a claimed 2. The new CPUs will be available in November. AMD also announced that Zen 4 is still on track and will use a 5nm manufacturing process. I cover the latest news and rumors about companies such as Intel.

Read Less.A new report by Chinese site MyDrivers offers some insider information about the Ryzen and X launch.
AMD had to develop the X chipset in-house as the traditional vendors did not have the expertise to design a PCI Express 4-compatible chipset. With AMD showing how it's done, this is not going to be a problem next year and once again, partners will be taking over X production.
This should also benefit AMD as apparently, selling chipsets does not really help with the company's profits. Thunderbolt 3 integration is still not on the cards as per the report. Besides X late next year, we also expect to see motherboards based on the B chipset for midrange builds sometime during January or Februarypossibly around CES.
B will continue to be based on PCIe 3. However, Ryzen is most likely to be the last Socket AM4 -compatible generation, according to a insider information obtained by RedGamingTech. MyDrivers Chinese.
