It will really depend on what they want to do with the Z, if they release a new R8 with that motherboard, they may not update the R7 to support the 9th gen.
For the first time, Intel is omitting Hyperthreading from Core i7s and reserving it for the i9s. If you already have an k then its not worth the upgrade. Killer Networking cards have had poor drivers for like 8 years just search Google or this forum. I suggest you remove all traces of their "heavy" driver-suite and use the "lean" Windows supplied drivers by PnP and Windows-Update.
No hands-on experience with Optane I was able to install the latest bios update by downloading the driver only not through support assist and installing it in command prompt safe mode.
